DotA 2 is Announced! Coming in 2011
Finally, after so many speculation and rumors, the DotA 2 is now officially announced! As the Game Informer mentioned, the game will be released next year on both PC and Mac platform.
Looking back a bit, IceFrog (the current DotA map developer on Warcraft III) is hired by Valve in 2009. Since then, many people starts wondering what kind of game they are working on. And as the curtain revealed, it appears they are bringing the DotA map into a full game based on the Valve's Source engine. That's mean many of the game limitation on Warcraft III is lifted. And with that, some new features are also introduced on the DotA 2.
Let's check it out!
In-Game Voice Chat
Ventrilo is no longer needed. Communication is the vital factor on the teamwork and typing sometime is not an option because our hand is already full controling the hero. The DotA 2 will cover that and have an integrated voice chat feature which will allow you to communicate during game easily.
Leaver AI Replacement
Awesome features. You will have less problem with the leaver. The disconnected players hero will be automatically taken control by an AI bots. However, don't get too excited and you decide to played it on a single-player game. Erik Johnson (the Project Leader) says, "Our goal with the AI is just that their experience isn't destroyed just because one person couldn't finish the game."
Cool Heroes Voice
The current DotA map is using the Warcraft III sound set which originally created for the Warcraft III campaign, not for DotA. The DotA 2 will have the heroes voice fit properly with the game. Amusing lines from heroes will coming out when you deny the enemy team last hits on creeps. Heroes who have related stories will trade quips when nearby. Maybe you will see Lina Inverse and Rylai teasing each other :p
Matchmaking System
Valve is using it's traditional Steamworks for the skill based matchmaking which will let you play comfortably.
In-Game Rewards
Valve is introducing a new system which will rewards you for participating in community forums.
Coaching System
Veteran players will be able to login as a coach and teach the newbies. The coach can see beginner's screen and can get private voice chat during the game. Still no words about how the trainer and trainee will be matched.
Wow, lots of amusing stuff there. I hope Valve can meet with our expectation. But i'm pretty disappointed with the fact that there's no screenshots of the game itself :( But hey, why ruin the surprise? Tell us what you think about DotA 2 on the comment box guys :)

Best part is they'll have some type of cinematic trailer or something for sure. Even though I'm quite sure they won't and will never, I wish they'd put in HoN original heroes.

This is a very cool idea but has to be a lot better than HON (Heroes of Newerth, Dota Clone) for me to move over. How much more can you add to Dota?

You mean limited to people who arent cheap? If you dont like it stick to WC3 Dota that you probably pirated anyways and that wont get updated. Its not gonna be a subscription game like WoW like that idiot above you thinks. It will be no more than HoN if it isnt free, which I doubt it will be.

Why are people getting upset you have to pay for it. These people spend months making games refining it and putting their all into it to make it something worth supporting. You think Valve is going to invest crazy money into something and don't expect some sort of return. I think that this is redundant...already exist HoN...Dota 2 or the Dota of Starcraft isn't an original idea...but good luck...if someone plays HoN, surely knows that it is a nice remake of Warcraft's DoTa.
DotA 2 will be a blast! i like the new features of the leaver system, its better than nothing, i hate HoN! its graphics is nice. but the system is too complicated. I hope DotA 2 system will be like DotA except for new features and all! Awesome! Nice job Icefrog!!!

Its supposed to be a remake but HON is not entirely a remake. Dota will be the EXACT same map, same heroes, incredibly graphics... and best of all. ICEFROG the reason y Dota got as big as it did. Is at the helm. That is the most important part. Its not a mod its a full game. Its OWN game.

There is no way that Blizzard can sue anyone. DotA is a mod and Blizzard does not own DotA. Main reason people still play the normal Warcraft is to have a few minutes of break when they are not playing DotA. Blizzard owes Icefrog for keeping their game still alive.
It will not be free. You can count on that.
There is only one problem I see so far...the leaver being replaced by AI. I know they are trying to improve the game, but lets face it...AI is easily exploitable. A team can feed off them very easily. No matter how smart the AI is they cannot predict a human team. DotA and HoN are great and they can both learn from each other. I will own both (DotA 2 + HoN) and play both. It doesn't have to be a fanboy situation like PS3 vs Xbox 360. Just have fun.

Valve released Alien Swarm for free... i wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for Dota. If they do put a price on it, it wont be very expensive anyway, just look at the price tag on existing games made by valve

Wth is wrong with you people, Hon, LoL, and DotA 2 can all live together, I'm certainly gonna keep playing LoL for a very long time after DotA 2 comes out. I might even play HoN every now and then. Obviously though DotA is where it's at, so DotA 2 will be nice to have unless they are stupid and release it as a pay over time and/or $50 initial charge. XP

1st... hope this has a lan game because if were playing on a shop we should just have lan game.. many players wont play non lan game plays. Some players wants to test their skills against other friends through team play or 1v1.. it's not good to mention this but we all know that players do bet money for winning on team game so being on only online game and a Non-lan game would surely reduce your players worldwide.
2nd... it should have a better short cut key for this game.. all of the heroes should have one constant short cut key from 1st up to the last skill.. and with the activatble items as well, you know what I mean..
3rd... no more to change logs.. i don't have to be so updated when I play not knowing that these hero skills has changes or at least mnimize it.. too much is no good.
4th... keep one constant map no more to those lousy versions if u want to change map versions for new patch at lest make it a one click.. like click update then it's okay. (why do we have to download maps then we need a version switcher to be donwloaded as well, etc.. such a hassle) its lazy playing games with many bugs so we have to download the new map that has new patch but is not sure if it doesn't have bugs? why should we play games that we have would worry if it has bugs? fix it on cbt then when its on obt there should be no prob.. it's worth the wait for the best non toxic lan/online game. if you do all these i bet even all hon players would play this game instead.
